Modern moral philosophy is unable to deal with the diversity of goods because it tries to solve the problems it rises by a top priority, all-trumping morality. But any adequate account of our lives has to do justice to both difference and unity. To attain this goal, we have to begin to make distinctions, because everything hangs on the details in moral reasoning. And the resources of moral reasoning are greater than they are normally supposed to be in today moral philosophy. To find a "measure" between the aspiration to oneness and the diversity of goods is the true secret of our "living a life".
