Regional Specialization and Product Quality in Italian Agribusiness - The paper analyses the transformations of some sectors of agriculture and the food industry - meat, milk, olive oil and wine - in several Italian regions between 1981 and 1996. We assume that some of these changes are due to the increased importance of quality productions. Particularly, for the food industry the paper examines the changes in concentration and localization of workers, using the exploratory spatial data analysis. Using the estimated indexes of spatial correlation, we have first identified the clusters, at the regional level, of communes specialized in the production of specific sectors; then we assessed their variations in the period considered. The results point out that in many cases food industries in the more developed regions, North Italy, have grouped in the areas where the a ppellations of origin are present, while in the less developed regions of the South, such a trend is much less relevant.
