Apparently the most relevant novelty in the present debate about diffent forms of democracy is the discovery of deliberative democracy. It introduces a new way of conceiving the idea itself of democracy, a new conception which is linked the old one, but in some respects different from the old liberal one. In this field the demand of renewal concerns especially the theory’s philosophical premises, the conceptual, epistemological and ethical ones. After the deliberative turn, democratic thought has concentrated on the conditions which grant legitimacy to democratic systems, that is to the situations in which legality leads to legitimacy. The hypothesis of a paradigmatic turn is confirmed to the extent that it is possible to demonstrate that from all those theoretical proposals a different conception of democracy really comes out which cannot be identified with the old liberal model.
