Which is the role of family in social practices and in research projects and community interventions? The present article aims to answer to this question proposing a review of the Italian and the international literature in Community Psychology. The aim of the review is to verify which is the use of the family-unit in the articles published from 1996 to 2007 on the Giornale Italiano di Psicologia and Animazione Sociale for the Italian journals and on the Journal of Community and Applied Social Psychology, Journal of Community Psychology and American Journal of Community Psychology for the international journals. Articles were selected using famil* as keyword. Results highlight differences in the use and in the conceptualisation of the family-unity within the national and the international journals. Keywords: family, community psychology, review
