The English Football Stadium on a Site of Post Modern Consumption: Text and Image (by Roger Penn) - ABSTRACT: This paper argues that the new football stadium in the English Premier League can be seen as a quintessential site of post-modern consumption. By using the four fold elements of Baudrillard’s classic model of postmodern consumption. This paper also argues the point that the consumption of football in contemporize England is governed by processes of monopolsation. As well as alienating within the emergence of a dualistic structure. In particular the introduction of the season ticket as the gateway to seeing live games between main clubs, involving a simultaneous burdensome duty as well as the COM modification of the football supporter. This paper makes use of visual data and conventional narrative textual explanations.
