Rita Charon underlines the centrality of the role of the physician in the listening of illness narratives. She focuses her attention on the importance of illness as a experience narrated by the patient. This narrative, therefore, is also a re-interpretation of illness-experience. More precisely, the analysis is carried out on the basis of the following concepts: attention, representation, and affiliation. Many examples are taken from poems.

Keywords: Iillness narrative, narrative medicine, attention, representation, affiliation, sickness.
