The Author maintains that today the nature of aesthetic judgment is widely misunderstood and needs reappraisal, and proposes three general theses, stemming from Kant: 1) that the notions of "taste" and "aesthetic judgment" are still essential for understanding and justifying the importance and value we (sometimes) acknowledge to art (be it the art of the past, or contemporary art); 2) that aesthetic judgment does not depend on rules or determinate methods; 3) that aesthetic judgment does not express individual preferences (thin), but has a "thic" - structure (conceptual and non conceptual, cultural and trans-cultural).
Keywords: Aesthetic Judgment, Art Criticism, Contemporary Art, Kantian Aesthetics, Leo Steinberg, Taste.
