The paper illustrates and analyses the results of simulations meant to estimate - drawing upon data from the whole set of public primary and secondary schools - the efficiency gains coming from class sizing techniques and based on a decisionmaking level higher than the current one. Three different aggregation units are considered: a) Municipality b) post code belonging to a given school district, c) a particular mixture of the preceding two. In addition to the analysis of efficiency gains - expressed in terms of reductions in the number of classes - this study applies some criterions to obtain an initial evaluation of discomforts that the restructuring process provides by shifting part of the school population.
