This contribution sheds light on the special relationship between Fiat and Chrysler in the aftermath of the Second World War and in particular during the years of the Marshall Plan. Vittorio Valletta (Fiat’s general manger) successfully established viable contacts with Philip Hills (Chrysler’s export manager) since 1945 and an important agreement was signed in 1947 allowing Fiat’s engineering division to access Chrysler technological and project planning knowhow. History has led to unexpected developments: in 2009 Chrysler was on the verge of collapse and Fiat stepped in. Today’s partnership agreement will provide Chrysler with Fiat’s cutting-edge Multi-air technology (ecological and fuel saving engines) and will develop Chrysler’s electrical propulsion technology for a completely new electric car project.
