According to the Author, chronic depression develop inside families characterized by a "semantics of belonging". The individuals inclusion in their family, their blood ties, their lineage, in the broader community or, on the contrary, their exclusion from the group is the salient feature of this family semantics. The peculiar position taken by the depression prone persons into this semantics induces them to feel a dilemma between their self and at least one extremely important relationship. The article describes also the ongoing and original inter-subjective context in which the patient’s peculiar positioning and the related dilemma are constructed. This positioning induces the patient to develops same resources that can be utilized during the therapeutic process.
