Throughout the last decade the region of Veneto has been characterized by remarkable internal and international migration flows. This labour force has been integrating in different productive sectors, usually in low-skilled jobs and hired more frequently than locals through non-standard contracts. While Southern italian workers tend to be only temporarily resident, the foreign migrants settle down more easily. The main distinction between these two labour force segments is that the internal migrants get hired through sub-contracting firms or employment agencies based in southern Italy, while foreign workers tend to be hired by Veneto’s firms or through local agencies. The analysis focuses on the different integration into the productive system experienced by southern and foreigners workers and on the widespread share of temporary resident labour force. Therefore the article analyses the integration of migrant workers highlighting the contractual categories, labour relations and in general the working conditions.

Keywords: Internal migration, international migration, local labour market, contractual regulation
