The paper deals with the issue about the suburban fringe areas, highlighting the genesis, the causes, its main features, and the collective negative impact which processes of urban sprawl can cause. Then the paper investigates the issue of quality of life and social relations within peripheral settlements and proposing possible solutions to improve the quality of social networks and relationships through urban design.
