The participatory process activated for the realisation of the local spatial plan in a small Tuscan town is suitable for developing some reflections on the opportunities and limits of stand up participatory processes in small realities. The author evidences dilemmas and conflicts emerging in these contexts, marginally located in respect of the socioeconomic, infrastructural and touristic dominant systems, having a good substrate of social capital but lacking adequate technical, financial and cultural resources.
