Many works explain the effectiveness of the HAPA Model in adopting healthy behaviours, but few studies have examined its applicability to addicted behaviours, such as tobacco consumption. These behaviours are more difficult to keep under personal control especially in adolescence, because of the effects of physical abstinence, as well as psychological and social factors. The aim of this work is to verify the applicability of the HAPA Model to smoking behaviour, by examining which variables of the volitional phase affect the consumption of cigarettes in young smokers claiming to intend to stop smoking. The study involved a sample of 128 adolescents attending secondary school. To verify the model some path-analyses were conducted. The results show that the variables included in the model negatively influence the consumption of cigarettes in adolescents. Moreover, the results vary by class attended.
