Recent anthropological work has highlighted the necessity to develop new theoretical and anthropological perspectives on elites, although this field of enquiry has overall remained marginal. In the field of Asian studies, important work has recently explored the development of a transnational business elites. Minor attention has however been paid to the relation between international mobility and new migrant elites. The article explore this relation in the context of South India, focusing particularly on how discourses and practices of migration intertwine with the formation of new elites and the transformation of traditional ones.
