The authors describe characteristics and outcomes from a psychodynamic approach used in order to completely understand the obese person. The psychoanalytic literature on this theme is re-examined and a decade long clinical formative experience with an institutional training group on Eating Disorders, which has lately been focused on obesity, and is working on countertransferal dreams of the team, is illustrated. An individual clinical case reports the complexity and the limited awareness of feelings and emotions, of one’s own psycho-physical state, in obese patients with transgenerational trauma. The fragility of the relationship between the obese parent and his/her infant is then investigated, outlining the psychoanalytical psycotherapy of an autistic child.
