This article is an overview of the approaches to the evaluation of educational institutions (schools, training centers, etc..), in order of the internal-external criterion: quality assurance, external accreditation, internal accreditation, benchmarking between institutions, self-evaluation. Self-evaluation processes differ according to different perspectives of the cultural paradigms of reference and focus on different aspects of organizational and educational system.
