In a time of migration emergency, traffic in human beings risks to become more and more worrying. Considering their relative vulnerability, children are more exposed to this form of trade. The recent European contributions on this subject are worth noticing: following the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon and the Charter of Nice, the EU can count on new instruments to make the common struggle against traffic in human beings more effective. Although the initiatives adopted in Italy at this aim, the strategies that were conceived to face the situation of illegal and irregular migrants seem to have serious consequences on the efforts made at different levels, including regions and local authorities, to contrast such crimes.
