This article describes the psychoanalytic treatment of a patient with sensory deficit (blindness) in the light of the integration of two separate models: the intersubjective perspective of Stolorow, Brandschaft, Atwood and Orange, and Bowlby’s attachment theory. It also refers to Bromberg’s thinking on the clinical role of dissociation. The aim of the paper is to show the emergence of the organizing principles, attachment styles and the expression of rigid defensive dissociation. The clinical approach of the case presented underscores the crucial role of the analyst’s sunjectivity and of the continuous and essential monitoring of her emotional experience in the complex interaction of the psychotherapeutic diad.
