The paper summarizes the thirty experience conducted on 1730 children with multiple disabilities taken in charge by the centers "La Nostra Famiglia". These children represent 32% of the subjects assisted in the period. The procedure includes different steps regarding each person involved in the experience: the child, the family, the professionals. According to professor Giorgio Moretti, each of them is the target of an "enhancing" approach: for the child, a cognitive process concerning his residual capability and his predominant needs has to be triggered; for the parents, educational actions have to be carried out, enabling them to understand the condition of their child, leaving in this way an attitude of denial or overprotection and favouring a respectful acceptance of the existing limits. As the professionals are concerned, a regular training has to be arranged, in order to let them work out for their patients life plans and communicate with the parents in a mutual trustworthy way.
