National and Community framework for rivers management plans and experiences outlines the necessity to operate in a cross-sectorial approach. In this context "river’s contracts" (CdF) emerge as a way to compose local interests and to build integrated strategies in order to redevelop river territories. An Italian law expressing on CdF methods or contents doesn’t exist, but the paper highlight strengths and weaknesses that come out from an analysis of some national experiences. On the basis of such considerations, the paper reported a methodological proposal for the participatory construction of a CdF, which moves from the local participation to the definition of multi-sectorial strategies, with reference to the Tinella river’s territory.
Keywords: Participation, negotiation, rivers management, local development.
