This paper describes the historical development and the theoretical and methodological framework of the Psychology of Liberation. The concepts of social bond, relationship and participation are given special attention. After discussing how Psychology of Liberation and Community Psychology are linked together, possible applications in different specific contexts are illustrated. This paper shows how Psychology of Liberation differs from akin constructs like empowerment and resilience. Finally, ethical and value-related aspects of the Psychology of Liberation are discussed.
