This article discusses the feminist lawyer and attorney Catharine MacKinnon’s recently translated texts, highlighting how they have contributed to the debate on the use of law and rights to combat discrimination and violence against women and comparing them to feminist literature and women’s struggles in Italy in the last forty years. Doubts are raised about MacKinnon’s underlying presumption that the relationship between men and women is primarily connoted by violence, illustrating both the progress and the problems involved in using law and rights to identify it and fight against it. Finally, the article makes a critical analysis of her reading of what she calls post-modern feminism.
