Some problems related to the issue of money in psychotherapy are discussed. It is argued that the problem of money is not conceptually different from any other aspect of the psychotherapeutic relationship (i.e., it belongs to the same conceptual category), so that, in principle, a question about its role in psychotherapy might reveal an erroneous conception of theory of technique. Some clinical examples supporting this position are presented. Finally, the following aspects are discussed: the handling of bills; the issue of payment of missed sessions; the time when the therapist should be paid (whether each session or at the end of the month); amount of the fee. Regarding the fee, it is hypothesized that those psychotherapists who charge very high fees might be affected by narcissistic psychopathologies

Keywords: Money in psychotherapy, billing, psychotherapy fees, high psychotherapy fees, theory of psychotherapeutic technique
