With more than 700 urban farms and gardens, New York City is a leader in the practice of urban agriculture. Focusing on a comparison between the interactive maps, data and websites related to urban green in New York City and in Italy, the paper analyzes the role of urban agriculture in remapping the city and producing urban imaginaries able to create new urban visions. The daily practices of urban farming and their visual representation contribute to create a paradigm shift, which reshapes the boundaries between city and nature. Focusing on the variety of issues intersected with urban agriculture, the paper will conclude highlighting how crowdsourced maps and websites are important tools that help nonprofits, community groups, students, public agencies, and local businesses develop a better understanding of their environment.

Keywords: Urban agriculture, Italy, New York City, crowdmapping, community gardens.
