Verbal violence is a complex phenomenon that language theories cannot ignore. This paper aims at showing the contiguity of verbal and physical aggression, language being strictly interwoven with other human activities. Drawing a case study from the Iliad - the armed duel and the quarrel between Achilles and Agamemnon - the paper focuses on two different types of conflict where words play an important role.
