On the occasion of Diego Napolitani’s (1927- 2013) death, an article he originally published on pp. 121-127 of issue no. 3/1982 of Psicoterapia e Scienze Umane is reprinted with a brief introductory note. The theory of group analysis is presented and compared with classical psychoanalysis. Diego Napolitani has been a witness and protagonist of the history of psychotherapy in Italy and a leading figure of group analysis.
