The present essay inquiries into the propagandistic campaign actors and agencies (variously tied up with the Fascist power system) run in order to delegitimate the League of Nations and the democracies traditionally identified with its most strenuous supporters: France and Great Britain. The period spans from the preparation of the colonial war in East Africa up to the Italian withdrawal from the Geneva assembly in December 1937, but the A.’s intent is to clarify how deep-seated was the Fascist aversion to the League of Nations, regardless of the incidental influence of the Ethiopian conflict. The systematic trivialization of the Geneva institutions and procedures, pursued by Palazzo Chigi over the whole Fascist era, was incessantly echoed and magnified by periodicals of disparate circles, from the Academy to the Nationalist caucuses, from the GUF (Fascist University Youth) to the PNF (Fascist National Party), to end with the intellectuals dealing with foreign affairs studies, geopolitics, diplomacy and history of international relations.
