The management of nursery homes presents different degrees of complexity, depending on the number of organizational methods. In this article, the author describes the experience of the Municipality of Gradisca d’Isonzo in the Gorizia province, which runs 2 nurseries. The case is particularly interesting because the City Council has designed the service together with the collaboration of three neighboring towns, and then assigned the service to a third part, a private company; furthermore, the buildings in which the nurseries are located are not owned by the City of Gradisca. Consequently, many stakeholders are involved in the proper functioning of the nurseries and collaborate even if retaining their own specific needs. Other related aspects should also be taken into consideration such as occupational safety, hygiene of children and space, quality of food and right to privacy. The solution to the complexity of this management system has been identified with the quality certification ISO 9001, awarded by the Municipality of Gradisca in 2005 and improved over the years.
