The Italian law nr. 4/2013 acknowledges a few of the most widespread intellectual occupations, and among these ones, the professional counsellor. SIAB (Italian Society of Bioenergetic Analysis) was co-founder of CNCP (Italian federation of professional counselors) and has been promoting a clear boundary between counseling and psychotherapy. Now CNCP is required to reinvent its mission and vision, in order to qualify and defend its associates face to private and public bodies. A professional counsellor has to be aware of one’s professional boundaries because they are the best guarantee to one’s professionalism and to the protection of the client.

Keywords: Professional counselling; law of acknowledgment; not-chartered professions; professional associations; promotion of professionalism and protection of clients.
