This paper is about some institutions aiming to the political and economical control of the clergy. More precisely, this work is focused on Royal Chapels and on Regio Economato, which developed in all Europe during early modern age. As far Italy is concerned, these institutions had been of the utmost importance until 20th century. In fact, it is well-known that Duchy of Milan’s Regio Economo became the model of State- Church relations also in Savoia Kingdom and, later on, after unification, in Italy. Besides that, this inquiry tries to map the main archives where the documents related to those problems can be found.
Keywords: Church history (XVI-XIX centuries), Royal Chapels, Regio Economato (Royal Church Treasurer), jurisdictional conflicts, State-Church relations, ecclesiastical benefices.
