Quando la resistenza di 25 attivisti per proteggere delle case popolari si è scontrata con le gravi violenze commesse dalla polizia ad Istanbul nel maggio 2013, le città turche hanno visto una rapida mobilitazione di milioni di persone, trasformando così una piccola protesta in una grande insurrezione. Seguendo il percorso che ha portato alla mobilitazione politica di Gezi Park ad una scala più ampia (di quartiere, di città e poi di nazione), la prima parte dell’articolo analizza la geografia politica dell’insurrezione. Nella seconda parte si fa un passo indietro, considerando la politica economica turca dell’ultimo decennio; questa ha generato una resistenza molto articolata sebbene circoscritta, resistenza che è poi esplosa nelle città turche. L’articolo, dunque, tratta la rivendicazione del diritto alla città in Turchia in relazione alla politica economica che ha di fatto scatenato una tale mobilitazione.
