The present paper analyzes the phenomenon of dating aggression using a developmental-contextual model which emphasizes a longitudinal theoretical model of interaction between person and environment. Following this model, the presence and the persistence of aggressive behaviors between partners is the result of the interaction between individual characteristics, previous experiences, and contextual influences of more proximal social relationships encountered across the lifespan (family, peer, partner).

Keywords: Dating aggression, aggressive behaviors, romantic relationships, developmental- contextual model.
