We propose a reflection on the book of Duccio Bigazzi, Il Portello. Workers, techinicians, entrepeneurs in the Alfa Romeo car factory, 1906-1926 (Milan, 1988), 25 years after its publication. Il Portello was an innovative example in Italian historiography of the 1980s: what is left of that example? What are its methodological legacies? Three historians of different generations and attitudes discuss these topics.
