This essay show the results of a research about the dynamics of integration and social mobility of the Chinese community in Prato. Twenty-five years after the first settlements of immigrants, the hypothesis of the research is that the Chinese are not an "indistinct group" exemplified by opposition among the few who have the capital and the many who are exploited. The reality is much more complex and it shows, despite the many contradictions, a flux framework. In particular, we highlight two process that affect the traditional dynamics of social mobility: first, the younger generation that shows, often in conflict with the paths of the fathers, a break with the past; second, an emerging "middle class" that diversifies its business activities and has different lifestyles. So, the study of the retail market and consumption become two new and original ways to understand the complexity of Chinese in Prato.
Keywords: Immigrants, Chinese people, Consumption, Retail marketing, Middle class, Social mobility.
