This paper deals with the debate between the Jewish scholar Orobio de Castro and the Calvinist scholar Philipp van Limborch. It argues that the latter alluded to Moses as an example of priestly imposture, and, under the impact of Spinoza’s Tractatus, adopted an elusive attitude vis-à-vis the Old Testament.
Keywords: Orobio de Castro, van Limborch, Spinoza, Old and New Testament
