Since the publication in 2003 of Davide Rodogno’s book, Il nuovo ordine mediterraneo, historical research on the politics of occupation carried out by the Fascist regime in the Balkans during the Second World War has entered into a new phase. The articles published in this section focus on some of the many aspects that deserve further investigation, namely the occupation of Montenegro; the various phases of Slovene studies about the Italian occupation of the province of Ljubljana, and the transformation of Slovene debates and public memory; and the reasons why Greek historiography and memorial articles have devoted only scant attention to the history of the Italian occupation after the German invasion.
