The article aims to investigate Aristotle’s view on the types of errors occurring in practical reasoning or ‘deliberation’. The Author’s survey clarifies the difference between error in deliberation and moral error, considers to what extent deliberation corresponds to the so-called ‘practical syllogism’, and lastly recognizes three types of errors related to either perception or opinion. In the second case, the error in deliberation may correspond to a wrong opinion in general (without implying a nefarious intent) or to an incorrect assessment of the circumstances.
Keywords: Aristotle, deliberation, choice, practical syllogism, circumstances
