This paper was born from the desire of "digging" in our tradition, for finding traces, conceptual evidences, icons of the idea of knowledge and its’ processes. The contents we will explore in this essay are the following: the concept of Science and its applicability in the arts; the ideal of Knowledge, also in relation to the scientific tradition of the period; the consequences that these reflections have on educational epistemology. It is clear, from the beginning, the Foucault’s suggestion, in this operation, indeed "archaeological" which drives us to seek deeply, under sedimented layers of opinions, analysis and studies, the cognitive seed of a formative proposal. Our aim is precisely studying an ancient epistemic contraption, which we retain to be a root of contemporary educational epistemology, even in the respect of historical and environmental contextualization of its origins.
