The paper aims to discuss the Shusterman’s project of the so called «somaesthetics» analyzing in particular his new books translated into italian in which he discusses among others the philosophy of John Dewey, Baumgarten and Foucault. The main idea is that if Shusterman really intends to start a new discipline based on the body consciousness in relationship with the birth of the modern aesthetics, he has to look not at the direction of Baumgarten, where in a still too rationalistic system of thought there is no evidence of a positive regard of the body, but at the direction of the italian philosopher Giambattista Vico, where we can find exactly a great aesthetic centrality of the body.
