In this paper, presented as Keynote Speach in the Conference "From the paradoxical interventions to the multiple narratives: 40 years of relational-systemic psychotherapy", Rome, 25-27 June 2015, the author goes back over the salient points that characterize his work of family therapist, integrating them to his own personal history, of man and of professional. Particularly he underlines the importance to challenge the family certainties, through four steps: challenge the existence of a patient identified, challenge that each has only one "self", create a context of confusion and uncertainty, allocate to each member of the family the role of patient and, at the same time, of therapist. The author reaffirms, furthermore, the importance, for the therapist, to maintain a position at once inside and out the family.
