The paper aims at analyzing the specific case of old age care in light of the issues and challenges of bioethical debate and medical ethics. In fact, the reflection on elderly medical care (with particular regard to institutions) does not represent a delimited field of research, but suggests moral evaluations which are valid for any patient-physician relationship, highlighting both the insufficiency of a bioethical paradigm based on the concept of autonomy, and the importance of completing it through different approaches which take into account the totality of each person and their vulnerability. In this respect, care ethics and phenomenological tradition offer promising indications.
