This is a cross-reading of four experiences of urban city administration in times of crisis. Crisis of politics and planning. These experiences, first of all, tell us of a request of the mayors towards the town planners. So we are talking about a government practice that goes back to relying on experts. How to read this attitude? As a new attempt to penetrate competence 'in' politics? In the face of this question, I will try to say how disciplinary knowledge resides, outside an irenistic vision of mutual and consensual collaboration. I will simply rebuild a thematic field by entrusting me with a thorough and thorough reconsideration of the state of urban and architectural research that I have been able to conduct over the past year by coordinating the quality evaluation group offered by the Italian university system
