The aim of the paper is to propose a reflection on the perception of age in relation to changes in the labor market. The ageing of the population and the lengthening of both life and working life detemine un-doubtedly consequent transformations on the economic and social levels, but on attitudes, values, expectations and shared representations also. The individually perceived registry size often does not correspond to the social, or socially understood, one and to requests of a constantly evolving world of work, built on the concepts of speed, rationality, professionalism and, not least, flexibility. Are we observing wrong work policies or, on the contrary, are the policies related to the job offers wrong? What is the weight of the age range in this structure? These are some of the questions object of investigation in this work.
Keywords: Work; age; flexibility; society; change.
