The article investigates the latest Austrian historiography about World War I; it highlights the relative delay of this historiography in the study of the Great War and explains the reasons. The author stresses the importance of recent relations with foreign historiography, especially Anglo-Saxon area, in offering incentives and open new fields of research. It focuses on four major research areas: war front and home front, war and gender, Church, war and territory, memory and memories.
