This article presents the impact of working with highly traumatized and dissociative individuals on the person of the therapist and on the therapeutic relationship. The author describes a case, illustrating common features of complex trauma and dissociation, some of the difficulties in treatment, and the experience of the therapist in trying to maintain equilibrium and focus in the midst of a challenging therapy.
