The article is taken from the intervention that the author has held on the anniversary of the 40-year history of the Center for Psychotherapy. Since its foundation and in the following years the Center of Psychotherapy has represented the beginning and the continuation of a real school of thought, integrating to the behavioral approach, until then considered the only one able to produce measurable results, data and experiences of the nascent experimental cognitive psychology. In addition to this, in those years in the "Roman school" operated a progressive integration with various disciplines connected to psychotherapy, such as ethology, neurophysiology, evolutionary psychology, etc. Over time, the dialectic with the major figures of international cognitivism, the diffusion of the cognitivist culture through the various "Roman schools" has produced the progressive diffusion of a "common" approach to cognitivism, a "Cognitivismum Nostrum" which is characterized by the attention to the complexity of psychic phenomena. Such culture of complexity has influenced and influence the thinking and practice of a large part of Italian cognitivism and is often appreciated also internationally
