During the 1970s, Italian feminism was a political, as well as a cultural and social phenomenon, characterized by a particularly strong and tight connection with the political culture of Left-wing parties and the tradition of the working-class. This article examines the relationship between the Italian New-left and feminism, starting from the reactions of Newleft groups (such as Avanguardia operaia, Lotta continua, Manifesto, and Potere operaio) to the spread of feminism in the period beween 1972 and 1976. The study highlights the connections, exchanges and, above all, divergences, in order to make evident the effects feminist theories and practices had on the social, cultural and political context.
