In their answer the authors highlight the extent to which the sample of diasporic intellectuals discussed in the book is not significant for the influence they had on later generations, or for their contribution to specific intellectual genealogies. Rather, they demonstrate the existence of a variety of alternative political projects in given historical conjunctures, thus contributing to questioning the teleologies of national historiographies. By so doing, the collection points to the endurance of imperial patriotisms across the entire nineteenth century.
