The essay examines the ways in which Italian youth is changing, in the context of the more general transformations taking place at the European level in terms of young people’s attitudes and values. It highlights the specificities of the Italian case, characterized by a stronger dependency of young people on their families of origin. Compared to other European countries, in Italy youth adapts to staying in the family, while pursuing a series of strategies aimed at reacting to their economic subordination, with the aim of emancipating itself, albeit briefly. At the same time, the last decades have been characterized by a series of changes in young people’s sexual behavior and gender relations, which sets them apart from previous generations, although they still tend to be less liberal than their European peers.
